It is narrated from Kabthah, the wife of Ibn Abi Qatadah and the daughter of Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), that Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to them, so I poured water (into a vessel) for his ablution. Then a cat came and began to drink from it, so Abu Qatadah tilted the vessel for it until the cat had drunk. Kabthah said: When you saw me looking at you, you said: O niece! Are you surprised? I said: Yes! So he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not impure; it is one of those who go around among you (in your homes) frequently."
