A companion from the tribe of Azd Shanou’ah, Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abi Zuhair (may Allah be pleased with him), was narrating hadiths to people at the door of the mosque. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:“Whoever keeps a dog without (the need for) farming or livestock, then a qirat (portion) is deducted from his deeds every day.”(Sayyiduna As-Sa’ib bin Yazid, may Allah be pleased with him, asked:) Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? (Sayyiduna Sufyan bin Abi Zuhair, may Allah be pleased with him, replied:) Yes! By the Lord of this mosque! (I heard it).
