It is narrated from Sayyiduna Suraqah bin Malik bin Ju'sham (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he conveyed some matters to his people and taught them (the matters of religion). One day, a man jokingly said to him: "For Suraqah, only this remains, that he should teach you the manner of relieving yourselves." Suraqah (turning the matter to seriousness) said: "When you go to relieve yourselves, avoid sitting in shaded places and on pathways, arrange for small stones, put pressure on your (left) shin, and perform istinja (cleansing) with an odd number (of stones)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When two men go out to relieve themselves, each of them should conceal himself from his companion, and they should not talk to each other while defecating, because doing so angers Allah Almighty."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to relieve himself, he would not lift his garment until he was close to the ground.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went out to relieve himself, he would go far away.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to the place of Maghmas to relieve himself. Nafi’ says: Maghmas was located at a distance of two or three miles from Makkah Mukarramah.
