Can price be given instead of sacrifice?

-" كنا نتزود لحوم الهدي على عهد رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إلى المدينة".
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we used to keep the meat of the sacrifice as provisions, and it would remain with us until we reached Madinah Munawwarah.
