Definition and rulings of Umri and Ruqba

- (من اعمر شيئا فهو لمعمره؛ محياه ومماته، ولا ترقبوا؛ فمن ارقب شيئا؛ فهو سبيله. وفي رواية: سبيل الميراث).
Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever is given something as 'Umra, it will belong to him, whether he lives or dies. Do not give anything as 'Ruqba; whoever gives something as 'Ruqba, it will be subject to the rules of inheritance."
