Book of Marriage, Justice Between Wives, Upbringing of Children, and Naming Them Well
Prohibited names
Numbering by, Al-Albani: 3271, Fiqh-based: ,1481
- (إن عشت- إن شاء الله- زجرت ان يسمى: بركة، ونافعا، وافلح، فلا ادري قال: افلح اولا، فقبض النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - ولم يزجر عن ذلك).
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "If Allah wills and I remain alive, I will prohibit these names: Barakah, Nafi‘, and Aflah." I do not know whether he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned "Aflah" or not. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away and he had not prohibited these names.

-" خير الاسماء عبد الله وعبد الرحمن واصدق الاسماء همام وحارث وشر الاسماء حرب ومرة".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdulwahab bin Bakht (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abdullah and Abdur Rahman are the best names, and Hammam and Harith are the truest names, while the worst names are Harb and Murrah."
