It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "When you feel pain, place your hand on the place of pain and recite this supplication: In the name of Allah and with Allah, I seek refuge in the honor and power of Allah from the pain that I am feeling. Then lift your hand and repeat this action an odd number of times (three or five or seven...).”

Abu Bakr bin Sulaiman bin Abu Hathmah Qurashi says that an Ansari man developed a boil on his side. He was informed that Sayyida Shifa bint Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with her) performs ruqyah (incantation) on such boils. He went to her and requested her to perform ruqyah on him. She said: "By Allah! Since I accepted Islam, I have not performed ruqyah on anyone." The Ansari went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of everything Shifa had said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) called Shifa and said to her, "Present your ruqyah to me." She did so, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Perform ruqyah on the Ansari and teach Hafsa this ruqyah, just as you previously taught her writing."

Sayyiduna Awf bin Malik Ashja’i (may Allah be pleased with him) says: In the days of ignorance, we used to perform ruqyah (incantations). (After becoming Muslim) I asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is your opinion about these (ruqyahs)? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:“Present your amulets (ruqyahs) to me, and (remember that) there is no harm in ruqyahs as long as they do not contain shirk (polytheism).”

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) permitted the Banu ‘Amr to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) for snake bites. Abu Zubair says: I heard Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) say that a scorpion stung a man while we were sitting with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Another man said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I perform ruqyah for him? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whoever can benefit his brother should do so.”

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to perform ruqyah (spiritual healing) with these words: "O Allah! Lord of the people! Remove the disease and cure (him/her), You are the Curer, there is no cure except Your cure, (grant) such a cure that leaves no illness behind." When the illness of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) intensified before his death, I took his hand and began to pass it over him and recite this supplication. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) withdrew his hand from my hand and began to say: "O Allah! Forgive me and join me with the Highest Companion." Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: These were the last words I heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
