Tawoos (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is obligatory upon every adult person to thoroughly clean himself for the sake of Allah once every seven days, even if he is not in a state of major impurity. On Friday, he should wash his head and his body."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the bath on Friday. Tawus (may Allah have mercy on him) stated: I said to Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): If he is with his family, should he apply perfume or oil? He replied: I do not know about that.
