It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), that while interpreting the statement of Allah the Exalted: «وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَشْتَرِي لَهْوَ الْحَدِيثِ» , he said: By this is meant singing, music, and things like it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was in a gathering when he received news that some people were playing with "Koh" (drums or chess). He became angry, stood up, and forbade it very strictly. Then he said: Beware! Whoever plays with it so that he may eat from its gambling, is like one who eats the flesh of a pig and performs ablution with its blood.

"Kubah" refers to chess.
