باب في ذَهَابِ الْعِلْمِ:
Chapter: The Disappearance of Knowledge
Hadith Number: 245
اخبرنا جعفر بن عون، اخبرنا هشام، عن ابيه، عن عبد الله بن عمرو رضي الله عنهما، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: "إن الله لا يقبض العلم انتزاعا ينتزعه من الناس، ولكن: قبض العلم قبض العلماء، فإذا لم يبق عالما، اتخذ الناس رؤساء جهالا، فسئلوا، فافتوا بغير علم، فضلوا واضلوا".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah will not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He will take away knowledge by taking away the scholars. When no scholar remains, people will take ignorant ones as their leaders; they will be asked questions and will give verdicts without knowledge, thus they will go astray themselves and will lead others astray as well."

Hadith Number: 246
اخبرنا موسى بن خالد، اخبرنا معتمر بن سليمان، عن الحجاج، عن الوليد بن عبد الرحمن بن ابي مالك، عن القاسم ابي عبد الرحمن مولى عبد الرحمن بن يزيد، عن ابي امامة، عن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، انه قال: "خذوا العلم قبل ان يذهب"، قالوا: وكيف يذهب العلم يا نبي الله، وفينا كتاب الله؟، قال: فغضب، ثم قال:"ثكلتكم امهاتكم، اولم تكن التوراة والإنجيل في بني إسرائيل، فلم يغنيا عنهم شيئا؟ إن ذهاب العلم ان يذهب حملته، إن ذهاب العلم ان يذهب حملته".
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Acquire knowledge before it disappears." The noble companions asked: O Messenger of Allah! How will knowledge disappear when we have the Book of Allah with us? The narrator said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry, then said: "May your mothers lose you! Were not the Torah and the Gospel among the Children of Israel, yet they did not benefit them at all? The disappearance of knowledge is that the people of knowledge disappear. Indeed, the disappearance of knowledge is the disappearance of the people of knowledge."

Hadith Number: 247
حدثنا ابو النعمان، حدثنا ثابت بن يزيد، حدثنا هلال هو ابن خباب، قال: سالت سعيد بن جبير، قلت: يا ابا عبد الله، ما علامة هلاك الناس؟، قال: "إذا هلك علماؤهم".
Hilal bin Khabbab narrated that I said to Saeed bin Jubair, may Allah have mercy on him: O Abu Abdullah! What is the sign of the destruction of the people? He said: When their scholars perish.

Hadith Number: 248
اخبرنا اخبرنا مالك بن إسماعيل، حدثنا مسعود بن سعد الجعفي، عن عطاء بن السائب، عن عبد الله بن ربيعة، عن سلمان رضي الله عنه، قال: "لا يزال الناس بخير ما بقي الاول حتى يتعلم او يعلم الآخر، فإن هلك الاول قبل ان يعلم او يتعلم الآخر، هلك الناس".
Sayyiduna Salman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: As long as the former people continue to teach others and the latter continue to learn from them, goodness will remain. When the first perishes without teaching and the latter without learning, then the people will be destroyed.

Hadith Number: 249
اخبرنا اخبرنا محمد بن الصلت، حدثنا ابو كدينة، عن قابوس، عن ابيه، عن ابن عباس رضي الله عنه، قال: "هل تدرون ما ذهاب العلم؟، قلنا: لا، قال: ذهاب العلماء".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Do you know what is meant by «ذهاب العلم» (i.e., the removal of knowledge)? We said: No. He said: It means the removal of the scholars.

Hadith Number: 250
اخبرنا محمد بن اسعد، حدثنا ابو بكر، عن عاصم، عن ابي وائل، قال: قال حذيفة رضي الله عنه: اتدري كيف ينقص العلم؟، قال: قلت: كما ينفض الثوب، وكما يقسو الدرهم، قال: "لا، وإن ذلك لمنه، قبض العلم: قبض العلماء".
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you know how knowledge will decrease? The narrator said: Like cloth shrinks and a dirham becomes counterfeit. He said: No, it is like that too, but the taking away of knowledge is the taking away of the scholars.

Hadith Number: 251
اخبرنا اخبرنا محمد بن الصلت، عن منصور بن ابي الاسود، عن حصين، عن سالم بن ابي الجعد، عن ابي الدرداء رضي الله عنه، قال: "ما لي ارى علماءكم يذهبون وجهالكم لا يتعلمون؟! فتعلموا قبل ان يرفع العلم، فإن رفع العلم ذهاب العلماء".
Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: What is the matter that I see your scholars are passing away and the ignorant are not acquiring knowledge? Acquire knowledge before it is taken away, for the taking away of knowledge is the passing away of the scholars.

Hadith Number: 252
اخبرنا اخبرنا احمد بن اسد ابو عاصم، حدثنا عبثر، عن برد، عن سليمان بن موسى، عن ابي الدرداء رضي الله عنه، قال: "الناس عالم ومتعلم، ولا خير فيما بعد ذلك".
Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: People are of two types: a scholar and a learner; those besides them have no good in them.

Hadith Number: 253
اخبرنا اخبرنا احمد بن اسد ابو عاصم، حدثنا عبثر، عن الاعمش، عن سالم، عن ابي الدرداء رضي الله عنه، قال: "معلم الخير، والمتعلم في الاجر سواء، وليس لسائر الناس بعد خير".
Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The one who teaches goodness and the one who learns (goodness), both are equal in reward, and apart from these two, there is no good in anyone.

Hadith Number: 254
اخبرنا قبيصة، اخبرنا سفيان، عن عطاء بن السائب، عن الحسن، عن عبد الله بن مسعود رضي الله عنه، قال: "اغد عالما او متعلما او مستمعا، ولا تكن الرابع فتهلك".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Become a scholar, or a learner, or a listener, and do not be the fourth type, lest you be destroyed.
