It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Zakat is not obligatory on less than five wasq (of grain), nor is zakat obligatory on less than five awqiyah (of silver), nor is zakat obligatory on less than five camels." Abu Muhammad Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: One wasq is equal to sixty sa', and according to the people of Hijaz, one sa' is two and a half mann, and according to the people of Iraq, one sa' is four mann. (In Arabic, mann was the name of a measure, which was approximately two and a half kilograms.) Thus, the nisab for grain is three hundred sa', and in the present calculation, one sa' is about two kilograms and some grams, approximately a little more than two kilograms.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“There is no zakat on grain (crops) and dates less than five wasq, nor is there zakat on silver less than five uqiyyah, and nor is zakat obligatory on camels less than five.”

Abu Bakr bin Muhammad bin Amr bin Hazm narrated from his father, who narrated from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wrote to Amr bin Hazm (may Allah be pleased with him) for Sharhabeel bin Abd Kulal, Harith bin Abd Kulal, and Na’eem bin Abd Kulal, stating:“Zakat is obligatory on five dirhams in five awqiyah of silver. If there is more silver than that, then for every forty dirhams, one dirham of zakat is to be added, and there is no zakat on less than five awqiyah.”
