Chapter: Prohibition of Adornment During Waiting Period
Hadith Number: 2323
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“A woman should not observe mourning for anyone who dies for more than three days, except for her husband, for whom she should mourn for four months and ten days. During this period, she should not wear colored clothes, except for a Yemeni cloak, nor apply kohl, nor use perfume, until she becomes pure from menstruation. When she has performed ghusl (ritual bath), she may apply kust and azfar (types of perfume) to the private area.”
