Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "Take Ma'iz bin Malik and stone him to death." So we took him to Baqi' al-Gharqad, and by Allah, we neither tied him nor dug a pit; he simply stood, and we killed him by throwing bones, pieces of pottery, and stones at him.

Abdullah bin Buraidah narrated from his father (Sayyiduna Buraidah, may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came whose name was Ma'iz bin Malik. He confessed to committing adultery before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rejected him three times. Then, when he came the fourth time and confessed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that a pit be dug for him up to his chest. He was placed in it, and the people were commanded by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to stone him. Thus, the people killed him in this manner.
