From the Book of Inheritance
باب في الْحُرِّ يَتَزَوَّجُ الأَمَةَ:
Chapter on a free man marrying a slave woman
Hadith Number: 3168
حدثنا حدثنا يزيد بن هارون، حدثنا يحيى، عن سعيد، ان عمر، قال: "ايما حر تزوج امة، فقد ارق نصفه، وايما عبد تزوج حرة، فقد اعتق نصفه، قال ابو محمد: يعني الولد.
It is narrated from Saeed (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Whoever a free man marries a slave woman, he has mortgaged half of himself, and whoever a slave marries a free woman, he has freed half of himself. Imam Darimi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: What is meant by this is the offspring.
