Sayyiduna Hadm Jarami رضي الله عنه says: I went to Abu Musa Ash'ari رضي الله عنه while he was eating chicken. He said, "Come and eat." I said, "I have sworn an oath that I will not eat chicken." Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari رضي الله عنه said, "Eat, for I have seen the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم eating it, and I will also tell you about your oath." I came to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, and some other people were with me. We were asking him for a ride, but he صلى الله عليه وسلم swore an oath that he would not give us a ride and that he had no mount to give. By Allah, we did not stay long before some white-collared she-camels came to the Prophet He صلى الله عليه وسلم ordered that we be given the camels. When we remembered the oath of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, we went back to him. He صلى الله عليه وسلم asked, "What brought you back?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah! We remembered your oath and we were afraid that perhaps you had forgotten." He صلى الله عليه وسلم said, "By Allah! I have not forgotten. But whoever swears an oath about something, then sees something else better than it, let him do what is better and offer expiation for his oath."
