Mujahid said «قطمير» is the membrane of a date stone (the shell or covering of the pit). «مثقلة‏» means a heavy load, something laden. Others said «حرور» is the heat of the day when the sun has risen, and Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said «حرور» is the heat of the night and «سموم» is the heat of the day. «غرابيب‏» , «غربيب» is the plural, meaning very black, completely dark.
