Explanation of the guarding of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him)
Hadith Number: 575
حدثنا حمد بن محمد بن حمد ابو نصر الكاتب ، حدثنا كردوس بن محمد الواسطي ، حدثنا معلى بن عبد الرحمن ، عن فضيل بن مرزوق ، عن عطية العوفي ، عن ابي سعيد الخدري ، قال: كان العباس عم رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فيمن يحرسه، فلما نزلت هذه الآية:"يايها الرسول بلغ ما انزل إليك من ربك وإن لم تفعل فما بلغت رسالته والله يعصمك من الناس سورة المائدة آية 67، ترك رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الحرس"، لم يروه عن فضيل، إلا المعلى، ولا يروى عن ابي سعيد، إلا بهذا الإسناد
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), the uncle of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), was guarding him when this verse was revealed:“O Messenger! Convey what has been sent down to you from your Lord; and if you do not, then you have not conveyed His message. And Allah will protect you from the people.”(Al-Ma'idah: 67) After the revelation of this verse, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) abandoned the practice of keeping a guard.
