Accountability for the whispers that come to the heart
Hadith Number: 1107
حدثنا حدثنا علي بن سراج المصري الحافظ ، حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن زياد المديني، حدثنا صالح بن نباتة ، قال: سمعت المامون امير المؤمنين يحدث عن ابيه ، عن عمه عبد الصمد بن علي بن عبد الله بن عباس ، عن ابيه ، عن جده ابن عباس رضي الله عنه، قال:"لما نزلت على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وإن تبدوا ما في انفسكم او تخفوه يحاسبكم به الله سورة البقرة آية 284 شق ذلك على اصحاب رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم، فنزلت فيغفر لمن يشاء ويعذب من يشاء سورة البقرة آية 284، فسري ذلك عنهم"، لم يروه عن المامون، إلا صالح، تفرد به عبد الله بن محمد المديني
Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: When this verse was revealed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him):“And whether you disclose what is in your hearts or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it.”(Al-Baqarah: 284), it was burdensome for the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all). Then this verse was revealed:“He forgives whom He wills and punishes whom He wills.”Then (Allah)“will forgive whom He wills and punish whom He wills.”So this made them happy.
