Mujahid said that the meaning of «لا تجعلنا فتنة‏ للذين كفروا» is that we should not be harmed by the hands of the disbelievers; they began to say, "If the religion of these Muslims were true, then why are they overcome by us and why do they endure such hardships?" By «بعصم الكوافر‏» it is meant that the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) were commanded to leave those disbelieving women who remained in Makkah in a state of disbelief.
