The Book of Prayer
(بُكَاءُ رَسُولِ الرَّحْمَةِ ﷺ مِنْ خَشْيَةِ اللَّهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ)
(The weeping of the Messenger of Mercy ﷺ from fear of Allah during prayer)
Hadith Number: 1000
1000 - وعن مطرف بن عبد الله بن الشخير، عن ابيه قال: اتيت النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - وهو يصلي ولجوفه ازيز كازيز المرجل، يعني: يبكي. وفي رواية قال: رايت النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم - يصلي وفي صدره ازيز كازيز الرحا من البكاء، رواه احمد، وروى النسائي الرواية الاولى، وابو داود الثانية.
Mutarrif b. ‘Abdallah [b.] ash-Shikhkhir quoted his father as saying,“I came to the Prophet when he was engaged in prayer, and heard a sound from within him like the bubbling of a pot,”meaning that he was weeping. In a version he said,“I saw the Prophet praying and a sound came from his breast like the rumbling of a mill, owing to weeping.”Ahmad transmitted it. Nasa’i transmitted the first version and Abu Dawud the second.
