The Book of Merits
(لَوْ اسْتَمَرَّتِ النُّبُوَّةُ لَكَانَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ نَبِيًّا)
(If prophethood had continued, Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, would have been a prophet)
Hadith Number: 6047
6047 - وعن عقبة بن عامر - رضي الله عنه - قال: قال النبي - صلى الله عليه وسلم -: (لو كان بعدي نبي لكان عمر بن الخطاب). رواه الترمذي. وقال: هذا حديث غريب.
`Uqba b. `Amir reported the Prophet as saying, "If there were to be a prophet after me, he would be `Umar b. al-Khattab." Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a gharib tradition.
