It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I once heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saying: "Not even the smallest portion of arrogance will enter Paradise." A person asked: "O Messenger of Allah! I like that my mount and the strap of my sandals be fine (is this also arrogance?)" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: "This is not arrogance. Allah Almighty is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is that a person does not accept the truth and looks down upon people."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that I once heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Not even the smallest portion of arrogance will enter Paradise." It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that we have learned that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade filing the teeth (for the sake of beauty), tattooing the body, plucking hair, reducing prices, putting mouths together in one vessel, joining hair with hair, and the transaction of Mulamasa (a type of sale).

Abu’l-Husayn Haytham says that once I and a friend of mine whose name was Abu ‘Amir and who belonged to the tribe of Ma‘afir, set out to pray in Bayt al-Maqdis. There, a man from the tribe of Azd whose name was Abu Rayhanah and who was among the Companions, used to deliver sermons. My companion reached the mosque before me; after a little while, I also arrived and sat beside him. He asked me,“Have you ever sat in Abu Rayhanah’s sermon gathering?”I said,“No.”He told me,“I heard him say that the Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade ten things: filing the teeth, tattooing the body, plucking hair, two men drinking from the same vessel with their mouths without a barrier, two women drinking from the same vessel with their mouths, attaching silk as embroidery to the lower part of garments, draping silk garments over the shoulders like non-Arabs, looting, riding on saddles made from leopard skins, and wearing a ring for anyone other than a ruler.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ten things: "Sharpening the teeth, tattooing the body, plucking hair, two men drinking from the same vessel with their mouths without any barrier, two women drinking from the same vessel with their mouths without any barrier, attaching silk to the lower part of the garment in the form of embroidery, wearing silk garments on the shoulders like non-Arabs, looting, riding on saddles made of leopard skins, and wearing a ring for anyone other than a king."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wearing a ring except for a king.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever takes pride in his honor and nobility by attributing himself to his nine disbelieving forefathers, he will enter Hell as the tenth individual along with them."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once we participated in a battle with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At night, we reached a hill and spent the night there, and severe cold overtook us, to the extent that I saw some people digging holes in the ground and getting into them, then covering themselves with shields. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw the people in this condition, he announced, "Who will stand guard tonight? I will pray for him that Allah's grace will be with him." Upon this, an Ansari presented himself. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called him, and when he came near, asked, "Who are you?" He told his name. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) began to pray for him and prayed abundantly. Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) says that when I heard the Prophet's prayers, I stepped forward and submitted, "I am the second person." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Come near." I came near. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked, "Who are you?" I replied, "I am Abu Rayhanah." So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also prayed for me, though the prayers were somewhat less than those made for the Ansari. Then he said, "The fire of Hell is forbidden to the eye that weeps out of fear of Allah, and the fire of Hell is also forbidden to the eye that stays awake in the path of Allah." The narrator says that a third eye was also mentioned, but Muhammad bin Sameer could not hear it.

Abu al-Husayn Haytham says that I and a friend of mine used to stay close to Abu Rayhanah and acquire knowledge from him. One day my companion reached the mosque, but I could not. Later, my companion told me that he heard Sayyiduna Abu Rayhanah (may Allah be pleased with him) saying that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade ten things: filing the teeth, tattooing the body, plucking hair, a man drinking from the same vessel with another man without any barrier, a woman drinking from the same vessel with another woman without any barrier, attaching silk in the form of embroidery to the lower part of the garment, wearing silk garments on the shoulders like non-Arabs, looting, riding on saddles made from the skins of leopards, and wearing a ring for anyone other than a ruler.
