Hadith of Ra'iyyah (may Allah be pleased with him)
Hadith Number: 22465
It is narrated from Hazrat Ruiyah Suhaimi (may Allah be pleased with him) that he presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "My son and wealth have been seized in a raid." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The wealth has already been distributed, but Bilal! Take him to his child; if his child recognizes him, then hand him over to him." Accordingly, Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) took him along, showed him his son, and asked, "Do you recognize them?" When he admitted it, Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) handed him over to him. Sufyan says that the scholars believe that Ruiyah had accepted Islam before the raid.
It is narrated from Hazrat Ru'iyah Suhaimi (may Allah be pleased with him) that a letter written on red leather from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him. He used it as a patch for his bucket. After some time, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an army to his area, which left him with nothing—neither family nor wealth, rather, everything was taken away. He fled for his life, naked, on a horse "which was without a saddle," and reached his daughter, who was married among the Banu Hilal and had accepted Islam with her household. The courtyard of her house was a gathering place for people, so he entered the house from the back. His daughter, seeing him in that state, gave him clothes to wear and asked what had happened. He replied, "A great calamity has befallen your father; he has nothing left—neither family nor wealth, everything has been taken away." She asked, "Were you invited to Islam?" But without answering, he asked, "Where is your husband?" She replied, "He is with the camels." Then he went to his son-in-law, who also asked what had happened. He gave the same reply and said, "I wish to reach Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) before my family and wealth are divided." He said, "Then take my mount." He replied, "There is no need." Then he took a young camel from the shepherd and sent him off with a vessel of water as provision. He had only one piece of cloth on his body, but it was so small that if he covered his face, his lower body would be exposed, and if he covered his lower body, his face would be visible. He did not like that anyone should recognize him. In any case, he reached Madinah, tied his mount, and presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the Fajr prayer, he said, "O Messenger of Allah! Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) extended his blessed hand, but when he tried to place his hand on it, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) withdrew his blessed hand. This happened three times. Then the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "Who are you?" He replied, "I am Ru'iyah Suhaimi." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hand, raised it, and said, "O group of Muslims! This is Ru'iyah Suhaimi, to whom I wrote a letter, and he took my letter and made it a patch for his bucket." Then he very humbly said, "O Messenger of Allah! Return my family and my wealth to me." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Your wealth has already been divided, but whichever of your family you find, they are yours." So he went out, and his son, recognizing his mount, was standing by it. He presented himself before the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, "This is my son." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Bilal! Go with him and ask the boy if this is your father. If he acknowledges, hand him over to him." So Hazrat Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) went to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah! I have not seen either of them weeping upon meeting each other." The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "This is the harsh-heartedness of the Bedouins."
