بَابُ الْقِرَاءَةِ خَلْفَ الْإِمَامِ فِيمَا لَا يُجْهَرُ فِيهِ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ
Reciting behind the Imam in silent prayers
Hadith Number: 186
حدثني يحيى، عن مالك، عن العلاء بن عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب ، انه سمع ابا السائب مولى هشام بن زهرة، يقول: سمعت ابا هريرة , يقول: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: " من صلى صلاة لم يقرا فيها ب ام القرآن فهي خداج هي خداج هي خداج غير تمام" . قال: فقلت: يا ابا هريرة إني احيانا اكون وراء الإمام، قال: فغمز ذراعي، ثم قال: اقرا بها في نفسك يا فارسي. فإني فإني سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يقول: قال الله تبارك وتعالى: " قسمت الصلاة بيني وبين عبدي نصفين، فنصفها لي ونصفها لعبدي ولعبدي ما سال" قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: اقرءوا، يقول العبد: الحمد لله رب العالمين سورة الفاتحة آية 2، يقول الله تبارك وتعالى:" حمدني عبدي"، ويقول العبد: الرحمن الرحيم سورة الفاتحة آية 3، يقول الله:" اثنى علي عبدي"، ويقول العبد: مالك يوم الدين سورة الفاتحة آية 4، يقول الله:" مجدني عبدي"، يقول العبد: إياك نعبد وإياك نستعين سورة الفاتحة آية 5،" فهذه الآية بيني وبين عبدي ولعبدي ما سال"، يقول العبد: اهدنا الصراط المستقيم {6} صراط الذين انعمت عليهم غير المغضوب عليهم ولا الضالين سورة الفاتحة آية 6-7،" فهؤلاء لعبدي ولعبدي ما سال"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whoever performed prayer and did not recite Surah Al-Fatihah in it, his prayer is incomplete, incomplete, incomplete, it is never complete.”Abu Sa’ib said: O Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)! Sometimes I am behind the Imam. So Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) pressed my arm and said: Recite it in your heart, O resident of Fars! Because I have heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he used to say: Allah the Exalted said:“I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two halves, half for Me and half for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.”The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Recite: The servant says: All praise is due to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. The Lord says: ‘My servant has praised Me.’ The servant says: The Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. The Lord says: ‘My servant has extolled Me.’ The servant says: Master of the Day of Judgment. The Lord says: ‘My servant has glorified Me.’ The servant says: You alone we worship and You alone we ask for help. ‘This verse is between Me and My servant’ (that is, the Lord’s greatness and the servant’s declaration of servitude). The servant says: Guide us to the straight path, the path of those upon whom You have bestowed Your grace, not of those who have incurred Your wrath, nor of those who have gone astray. ‘These verses are for My servant, and My servant shall have what he asks for.’”

وحدثني، عن مالك، عن هشام بن عروة ، عن ابيه ، انه" كان يقرا خلف الإمام فيما لا يجهر فيه الإمام بالقراءة"
Hazrat Urwah bin Zubair used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah behind the Imam in silent prayers.

مالك، عن يحيى بن سعيد، وعن ربيعة بن ابي عبد الرحمن، ان القاسم بن محمد كان يقرا خلف الإمام فيما لا يجهر فيه الإمام بالقراءة
It is narrated from Rabi'ah bin Abi Abdur Rahman, may Allah have mercy on him, that indeed Qasim bin Muhammad bin Abi Bakr as-Siddiq used to recite (Qur'an) behind the Imam in those prayers in which the Imam does not recite aloud.

وحدثني، عن مالك، عن يزيد بن رومان ، ان نافع بن جبير بن مطعم " كان يقرا خلف الإمام فيما لا يجهر فيه بالقراءة" .
قال مالك: وذلك احب ما سمعت إلي في ذلك

Hazrat Nafi bin Jubair used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah behind the Imam in silent prayers.
