Chapter on seeking rain by the stars
Hadith Number: 451
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led the morning prayer for us at Hudaybiyyah after it had rained during the night. When he finished the prayer, he turned towards the people and said: "Do you know what your Lord has said?" They replied: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, has said: 'This morning, some of My servants have become believers in Me and some have become disbelievers. Whoever said that the rain was sent down by the grace and mercy of Allah, he is a believer in Me and a disbeliever in the stars. And whoever said that the rain was sent down by such-and-such star, he has disbelieved in Me and believed in the stars.'"

It reached Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When clouds rise from the direction of the sea and then begin to move towards the west, know that there is an abundant spring."

Imam Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) was informed that Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say: When morning came and rain had fallen, rain fell by the command of Allah, then he would recite this verse: «﴿مَا يَفْتَحِ اللّٰهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِنْ رَحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا، وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ﴾ [فاطر: 2] » meaning, "If Allah, Glorious and Exalted is He, wishes to show mercy to people, no one can withhold it, and if He wishes to withhold it, no one can grant it."
