Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Whoever is prevented due to illness, he will not become halal until he performs tawaf of the Ka'bah and sa'i between Safa and Marwah. If there is a need to wear any clothing or use medicine (which is prohibited in the state of ihram), then he should use it and give the penalty.

Umm al-Mu'minin Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that a Muhrim does not become halal (released from Ihram) without reaching the House of Allah (Ka'bah).

It is narrated from Ayyub bin Abi Tamimah that he heard from a man who was an old resident of Basra (his name is Abu Qalabah bin Zaid). He said: I set out for Makkah, and on the way my hip broke, so I sent someone to Makkah. There were Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and other people as well. None of them permitted me to exit the state of Ihram, so I remained lying there for seven months. When I recovered, I performed Umrah and then exited Ihram.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Whoever is unable to go to the House of Allah due to illness, his ihram will not be released until he performs tawaf of the House of Allah and sa’i between Safa and Marwah.

It is narrated from Sulayman bin Yasar that Sa'id bin Hazabah Makhzumi fell down on the way while coming to Makkah, and he was in the state of ihram. When he stopped at the place where he saw water, he inquired there, and he met Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), and Marwan bin Hakam. He described his condition to them. All of them said: He should take medicine as needed and give fidya. When he recovers, he should perform 'umrah and come out of ihram, then perform Hajj the following year and offer a sacrificial animal according to his ability.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: In our view, the same ruling applies to one who is prevented for any reason except because of an enemy.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, ordered Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, and Sayyiduna Habar bin Aswad, may Allah be pleased with him, when their Hajj was missed and they arrived on the tenth day, that they should perform Umrah, exit ihram, and return, then perform Hajj the following year and send a sacrificial animal (hady). If a sacrificial animal is not available, then they should fast three days during Hajj and seven days after returning home.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Whoever is prevented from performing Hajj after entering into Ihram due to illness, or for any other reason, such as making a mistake in counting the dates or not knowing about the moon, then his ruling is like that of one who is prevented (from completing Hajj).

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about a person who is a resident of Mecca, who entered into the state of Ihram for Hajj, then his foot broke or he suffered from diarrhea or a woman began labor pains? He replied that their ruling is like that of a Muhsar, just as the ruling is for outsiders when they are prevented.

Imam Malik, may Allah have mercy on him, said: A person came to Mecca having entered into the state of ihram for ‘umrah during the months of Hajj, and after performing ‘umrah, he then entered into ihram for Hajj from Mecca. After this, his foot broke or some other calamity befell him due to which he was unable to go to ‘Arafat. So he should remain there, and when he becomes healthy, he should go outside the Haram, then return to Mecca, perform tawaf and sa‘i, and then exit the state of ihram. Then, in the following year, he should perform Hajj and offer a sacrificial animal.
