مَا وَقَى الْمَرْءُ بِهِ عِرْضَهُ كُتِبَ لَهُ بِهِ صَدَقَةٌ
Whatever a person uses to protect his honor is written for him as charity
Hadith Number: 94
94 - اخبرنا ابو محمد عبد الرحمن بن عمر النحاس، ابنا احمد بن إبراهيم بن جامع السكري، ثنا علي بن عبد العزيز، ثنا المعلى بن مهدي، ثنا عبد الحميد بن الحسن الهلالي، ثنا محمد بن المنكدر، عن جابر بن عبد الله، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «ما انفق الرجل على اهله ونفسه كتب له به صدقة، وما وقى به الرجل عرضه كتب له به صدقة» فقلت لمحمد بن المنكدر: وما معنى ما وقى به الرجل عرضه؟، قال: ان يعطي الشاعر او ذا اللسان المتقى
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whatever a man spends on his family and on himself, it is written for him as charity in return, and whatever a man spends to protect his honor, that too is written for him as charity in return.”I (Abdul Hamid) asked Muhammad bin Munkadir:“What is the meaning of ‘whatever a man spends to protect his honor’?”He said: It means that he gives something (to a poet or a foul-mouthed person) to protect himself from satire or insult.

95 - واخبرنا هبة الله بن إبراهيم الخولاني، انا علي بن الحسن بن بندار القاضي، ابنا ابو عروبة، ثنا عبدة الصفار، اخبرني زيد بن الحباب، ثنا مسور بن الصلت المدني، عن محمد بن المنكدر، عن جابر، قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: «ما وقى به المرء عرضه كتب له به صدقة»
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Whatever a person uses to protect his honor, it is written for him as charity in return.”
