It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) would enter into prayer, he would raise both his hands, and when he intended to bow (ruku‘), and when he raised his head from bowing, and when he stood up after the tashahhud of two rak‘ahs, on all these occasions the Prophet (peace be upon him) would raise both his hands up to the level of his shoulders.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the prayer, he would say «‏‏‏‏اللهُ أَكْبَرُ» ‏‏‏‏, then raise both his hands up to the level of his shoulders, and when he would bow (ruku‘), he would do the same (raise the hands), and when he would prostrate, he would do the same, and when he would raise his head from prostration, he would not raise his hands, and when he would stand up after the (tashahhud of) two rak‘ahs, he would do the same (raise the hands).

Hazrat Usman bin Al-Hakam Al-Judhami, with his chain of narration, reports from Imam Ibn Shihab in a similar manner, and stated that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said «‏‏‏‏اللهُ أَكْبَرُ» ‏‏‏‏ and raised both his hands up to the level of his shoulders. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) says that the first person to bring the knowledge of Ibn Jurayj and Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) to Egypt was Hazrat Usman bin Al-Hakam Al-Judhami. Imam Abu Bakr says that I heard Ahmad bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahim Barqi saying, Ibn Abi Maryam narrated to us, he said Usman bin Al-Hakam Al-Judhami narrated to me, and he was among the best of people.
