Sahih Ibn Khuzaymah
جُمَّاعُ أَبْوَابِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ وَمَا فِيهَا مِنَ السُّنَنِ
Chapters on Two Rak‘ahs before Fajr and their Sunnahs
(468) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ تَخْفِيفِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ قَبْلَ الْفَجْرِ اقْتِدَاءً بِالنَّبِيِّ الْمُصْطَفَى صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ،
The chapter on the recommendation to make the two units before Fajr light, following the Prophet
Hadith Number: Q1112
إذ اتباع السنة افضل من الابتداع على ما يامر القصاص من تطويل الركعتين قبل الفجر
Indeed, following the Sunnah is better than innovating according to what the storytellers command of lengthening the two rak‘ahs before Fajr.

Hadith Number: 1112
قال: حدثنا احمد بن عبدة الضبي ، اخبرنا حماد يعني ابن زيد ، عن انس بن سيرين ، قال: قلت لابن عمر ، ارايت الركعتين قبل صلاة الغداة، اطيل فيهما القراءة؟ قال:" كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي الركعتين قبل الغداة كان الاذان باذنيه"
Anas bin Sirin narrates that I asked Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them), "Tell me, should I recite long (Qira'at) in the two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer?" He replied, "The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform the two rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer (so lightly) as if the call to prayer was being recited in his ears."

حدثنا محمد بن الوليد ، حدثنا عبد الوهاب يعني ابن الثقفي ، قال: سمعت يحيى بن سعيد ، يقول: اخبرني محمد بن عبد الرحمن ، انه سمع عمرة تحدث، عن عائشة ، وحدثنا ابو عمار ، حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير ، ح وحدثنا يوسف بن موسى ، حدثنا جرير ، ح وحدثنا عبد الله بن سعيد الاشج ، حدثنا ابو خالد جميعا، عن يحيى بن سعيد ، عن محمد بن عبد الرحمن ، عن عمرة ، عن عائشة ، وهذا حديث محمد بن الوليد، انها كانت تقول: كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يصلي ركعتي الفجر" فيخففهما حتى إني لاقول: قرا فيهما بام الكتاب؟" وقال ابو عمار في حديثه: حتى اقول: هل قرا فيهما بشيء؟
Sayyida Umrah narrates from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she used to say: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the two rak‘ahs of Fajr, he would recite them so lightly that I would say (to myself), "Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) even recite Surah Al-Fatihah in these two rak‘ahs or not?" In Abu ‘Ammar’s narration, the words are: "So much so that I (in my heart) would say, 'Did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite anything at all in these two rak‘ahs or not?'"
