جماع أَبْوَابِ صَلَاةِ التَّطَوُّعِ بِاللَّيْلِ
Chapters on Night Voluntary Prayers
(505) بَابُ إِبَاحَةِ الْجَهْرِ بِبَعْضِ الْقِرَاءَةِ وَالْمُخَافَتَةِ بِبَعْضِهَا فِي صَلَاةِ اللَّيْلِ
The chapter on the permissibility of reciting some parts aloud and some quietly in night prayer
Hadith Number: 1159
نا علي بن خشرم ، اخبرنا عيسى يعني ابن يونس ، ح وحدثنا يوسف بن موسى ، نا عبد الله بن نمير الهمداني جميعا، عن عمران بن زائدة بن نشيط ، عن ابيه ، عن ابي خالد الوالبي ، عن ابي هريرة :" انه كان إذا قام من الليل رفع صوته طورا وخفضه طورا، وكان يذكر ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم كان يفعل ذلك"
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that when he performed the Tahajjud prayer, he would sometimes raise his voice. And he stated that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do the same.

Hadith Number: 1160
نا عبد الله بن هاشم ، نا عبد الرحمن يعني ابن مهدي ، عن معاوية ، عن عبد الله بن ابي قيس ، وحدثنا بحر بن نصر ، حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب ، حدثني معاوية بن صالح ، ان عبد الله بن ابي قيس ، حدثه، انه سال عائشة : كيف كانت قراءة رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم من الليل، اكان يجهر ام يسر؟ قالت:" كل ذلك كان يفعل، ربما جهر وربما اسر" . فزاد بحر في حديثه، قال: فقلت:" الحمد لله الذي جعل في الامر سعة"
Abdullah bin Abi Qais reports that he asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about the manner of recitation in the Tahajjud prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): did he recite aloud or quietly? She replied that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite in both ways; sometimes he would recite aloud and sometimes quietly. Bahr bin Nasr, in his narration, added these words: So I said, all praise is due to Allah who has kept flexibility and allowance in this matter.
