And the evidence that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, only forbade taking the best of the wealth of those upon whom charity is due when the collector takes the best of their wealth without their willing consent, is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted taking the best of their wealth if they willingly gave it, and he supplicated for blessing for the one who gave it, in his wealth and in his camels.

Imam Abu Bakr, may Allah have mercy on him, says that in the narration of Sayyiduna Wa'il bin Hujr, may Allah be pleased with him, it is mentioned that the man sent a beautiful she-camel, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated: "O Allah, bless this man and his camels."

Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me to collect zakat from all the members of the Banu Sa'd bin Hudhaym family of the tribes of Baliy, 'Udhrah, and Quda'ah. So I collected zakat from them until I reached a man among them whose house and area were the closest to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in Madinah Munawwarah. When that man gathered all his wealth before me, there was only one bint makhad (a one-year-old she-camel) due as zakat. So I said to him, "Give a one-year-old she-camel; this is your zakat." He said, "This she-camel neither gives milk nor is it fit for riding. By Allah, before you, neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has come to my wealth nor has his collector come, and I do not want to give to Allah a beast from my wealth as a loan which neither gives milk nor is fit for riding. But you may take this young, fat, healthy she-camel." I said, "I cannot take an animal which I have not been ordered to take, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is very near to you. Therefore, you may go to him and make the same offer you made to me. If he accepts it, that is fine, and if he returns it, that is also fine." He said, "I will do that." So he set out with me, bringing the same she-camel he had offered me, until we reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said to him, "O Prophet of Allah, your collector came to me to collect zakat from my wealth. By Allah, before this, neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has come to my wealth nor has your collector come. So I gathered my animals before him, and he said that the zakat due is a one-year-old she-camel, but this she-camel neither gives milk nor is fit for riding. I offered him my young, fat, and beautiful she-camel so that he might take it, but he refused, and this is the she-camel. I have brought it to present it to you, so please accept it." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "The zakat due upon you was only a one-year-old she-camel, but if you wish to give a better she-camel willingly, Allah will reward you for it, and we have accepted this she-camel from you." He said, "O Messenger of Allah, this is the she-camel. I have brought it to present it to you, so please accept it." So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the she-camel to be received and prayed for blessings in his wealth.

Hazrat ‘Ammarah bin ‘Amr bin Hazm narrates that times changed until the era of the rule of Sayyiduna Mu‘awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with them both) came, and he appointed Marwan bin Hakam as the governor of Madinah Munawwarah. He sent me to collect zakat from all the members of the Banu Sa‘d bin Hudhaym family of the tribes of Baliy, ‘Udhrah, and Quda‘ah. So I reached the person (who is mentioned in the previous hadith) while he had become very old. I collected the zakat of fifteen hundred camels from him, which was thirty hiqqah, including their male camel. Ibn Ishaq says: In our opinion, the reason Hazrat ‘Ammarah collected the male camel along with the she-camels was because it is Sunnah that when someone’s zakat is thirty hiqqah, then the male should also be collected along with them.
