جُمَّاعُ أَبْوَابِ صَدَقَةِ التَّطَوُّعِ
Chapters on Voluntary Charity
(166) بَابُ اسْتِحْبَابِ الْإِعْلَانِ بِالصَّدَقَةِ نَاوِيًا لِاسْتِنَانِ النَّاسِ بِالْمُتَصَدِّقِ، فَيُكْتَبُ لِمُبْتَدِئِ الصَّدَقَةِ مِثْلُ أَجْرِ الْمُتَصَدِّقِ اسْتِنَانًا بِهِ
166 Subchapter: Recommending public charity to encourage others, so the initiator gets the same reward
Hadith Number: 2477
حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم الدورقي ، حدثنا ابو معاوية ، حدثنا الاعمش ، عن مسلم وهو ابن صبيح ، عن عبد الرحمن بن هلال العبسي ، عن جرير بن عبد الله ، قال: خطبنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فحث على الصدقة، فابطا اناس حتى رئي في وجهه الغضب، ثم إن رجلا من الانصار جاء بصرة، فاعطاها، فتتابع الناس حتى رئي في وجه رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم السرور، فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " من سن سنة حسنة، فإن له اجرها واجر من عمل بها من غير ان ينقص من اجورهم شيء، ومن سن سنة سيئة، كان عليه وزرها، ومثل وزر من عمل بها من غير ان ينقص من اوزارهم شيء"
Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed us to give charity while delivering a sermon. The people delayed in complying with this command until signs of anger appeared on his blessed face. Then an Ansari companion brought a pouch and gave it in charity. After that, people began bringing charity one after another until the blessed face of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) lit up with happiness. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever introduces a good practice will have its reward and the reward of all those who act upon it, without their rewards being diminished in the least. And whoever introduces an evil practice (in Islam) will bear its sin and the sin of all those who act upon it, without their sins being diminished in the least."
