جماع أَبْوَابِ ذِكْرِ أَفْعَالٍ اخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ فِي إِبَاحَتِهِ لِلْمُحْرِمِ، نَصَّتْ سُنَّةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ دَلَّتْ عَلَى إِبَاحَتِهَا
Chapters on Acts Permitted for the Pilgrim by Sunnah
(133) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الْبَيَانِ أَنَّ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا أَمَرَ هَذَا الْمُحْرِمَ الَّذِي ذَكَرْنَاهُ بِغَسْلِ الطِّيبِ الَّذِي كَانَ عَلَيْهِ خَلُوقٌ فِيهِ زَعْفَرَانٌ وَالتَّزَعْفُرُ غَيْرُ جَائِزٍ لِلْحَلَالِ
Chapter: Explanation that the Prophet ordered the person in ihram to wash off the perfume containing saffron, and saffron is not allowed even for non-muhrim

ثناه محمد بن هشام ، حدثنا هشيم ، عن منصور ، وعبد الملك ، وابن ابي ليلى ، والحجاج ، كلهم عن عطاء ، عن يعلى بن امية ، قال: جاء اعرابي إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، وعليه جبة عليها ردغ من زعفران، فقال: يا رسول الله، إني احرمت فما ترى، والناس يسخرون مني، قال: فاطرق عنه هنيهة، قال: ثم دعاه، فقال: " اخلع عنك هذه الجبة، واغسل عنك هذا الزعفران، واصنع في عمرتك ما كنت تصنع في حجتك" ، غير انه قال في آخر الحديث: قال حجاج: ثنا عطاء، بهذا الحديث عن صفوان بن يعلى ، عن ابيه . ح وحدثنا محمد بن هشام ، حدثنا هشيم ، عن الحجاج ، عن عطاء، قال: كنا نقول قبل ان يبلغنا هذا الحديث: يخرق جبته، فلما بلغنا هذا الحديث اخذنا به
Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Umayyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a Bedouin came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he was wearing a cloak that was stained with saffron. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, I have entered into Ihram in this manner (as you see me), while people are mocking me. Now, what do you command me?" The Prophet lowered his blessed head for a while and did not answer him. Then he called him and commanded: "Take off this cloak and wash the saffron from your body, and perform your ‘Umrah in the same manner as you perform your Hajj." At the end of the hadith, Imam ‘Ata’ says: Before this hadith reached us, we used to say that such a person should tear his cloak, but when this hadith reached us, we acted according to it.
