جماع أَبْوَابِ ذِكْرِ أَفْعَالٍ اخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ فِي إِبَاحَتِهِ لِلْمُحْرِمِ، نَصَّتْ سُنَّةُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ دَلَّتْ عَلَى إِبَاحَتِهَا

(208) بَابُ ذِكْرِ الدَّلِيلِ عَلَى أَنَّ السَّعْيَ الَّذِي ذَكَرْتُ أَنَّهُ وَاجِبٌ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ، وَسَعْيًا كَانَ أَوْ مَشْيًا بِسَكِينَةٍ وَتُؤَدَةٍ
Chapter: Evidence that the obligatory sa‘i between Safa and Marwa can be done walking calmly or briskly

Hadith Number: 2770
حدثنا علي بن منذر ، حدثنا ابن فضيل ، حدثنا عطاء بن السائب ، عن كثير بن جمهان السلمي ، قال: رايت ابن عمر يمشي في المسعى، فقلت له: تمشي في المسعى بين الصفا والمروة؟ فقال:" لئن سعيت لقد رايت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم يسعى، ولئن مشيت لقد رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يمشي، وانا شيخ كبير"
Kuthair bin Jumhan Salmi narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) walking at a normal pace in the area for running (the low area between Safa and Marwah), so I said to him, "Why are you walking at a normal pace in the running place between Safa and Marwah?" He replied, "If I run, then I have seen the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) running. And if I walk at a normal pace, then indeed I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) walking at a normal pace as well, and I am an old man (that is why I am walking at a normal pace)."

Hadith Number: 2771
حدثنا ابو موسى ، حدثنا الضحاك بن مخلد ، عن سفيان ، عن عطاء بن السائب ، عن كثير بن جمهان ، قال: رايت ابن عمر يمشي بين الصفا والمروة، فقلت له: فقال:" إن امش، فقد رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يمشي، وإن اسع، فقد رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يسعى" .
Kuthair bin Jumhan narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) walking at a normal pace between Safa and Marwah, so I said to him (that you are walking at a normal pace at the place where people usually run). He replied, "If I walk at a normal pace, then I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) walking at a normal pace. And if I run, then I have also seen the Messenger of Allah running."

Hadith Number: 2772
وحدثنا ابو موسى ، ثنا في عقبه، حدثنا الضحاك ، عن سفيان ، عن عبد الكريم الجزري ، عن سعيد بن جبير ، عن ابن عمر ، نحوه.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) in a similar manner as mentioned above.

وروى سعيد بن بشير ، حدثني قتادة ، عن عكرمة ، عن ابن عباس ،" ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم سعى عاما، ومشى عاما" ، ثناه محمد بن يحيى ، حدثنا المغيرة ، حدثنا سعيد بن بشير
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed sa’i (walking between Safa and Marwah) running one year and walking at a normal pace another year.
