باب المسح على الخفين
Wiping over leather socks
Hadith Number: 81
حدثنا ابن المقرئ ، قال: ثنا سفيان ، عن الاعمش ، عن إبراهيم ، عن همام بن الحارث ، قال: رايت جريرا رضي الله عنه " توضا من مطهرة ومسح على خفيه" قال: اتمسح على خفيك، قال: إني رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يفعله ، قال: فكان هذا الحديث يعجب اصحاب عبد الله يقولون: إنما كان إسلامه بعد نزول المائدة.
Hammam bin Harith (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that I saw Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him), he performed ablution from a vessel and wiped over his leather socks. So the people said: Are you wiping over the leather socks? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over them. The narrator says: The students of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) liked this hadith, they used to say: Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam after Surah Al-Ma'idah was revealed.

Hadith Number: 82
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ، قال: ثنا ابو نعيم ، قال: ثنا بكير يعني ابن عامر البجلي ، عن ابي زرعة ، قال: بال جرير رضي الله عنه ومسح على الخفين، فعاب عليه قوم، فقالوا: إن هذا كان قبل المائدة، قال: ما اسلمت إلا بعد ما نزلت المائدة وما رايت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم مسح إلا بعد ما نزلت" .
Abu Zur’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says that Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) performed ablution and wiped over his leather socks after urinating. People objected, saying: This (ruling of wiping) was before the revelation of Surah Al-Ma’idah. He (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: I accepted Islam after the revelation of Surah Al-Ma’idah, and I saw the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping (over the socks) after that.

Hadith Number: 83
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن بشر ، قال: ثنا يحيى يعني ابن سعيد ، عن التيمي ، عن بكر ، عن الحسن ، عن ابن المغيرة بن شعبة ، عن ابيه ، قال بكر: وقد سمعناه من ابن المغيرة، عن ابيه، ان النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم " توضا ومسح على ناصيته وعلى العمامة وعلى الخفين" .
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) performed ablution, he wiped over the hair of his forehead, his turban, and his leather socks.

Hadith Number: 84
حدثنا عبد الله بن محمد بن عمرو الغزي ، قال: ثنا عبد الله بن يوسف ، قال: ثنا الوليد بن مسلم ، عن ثور بن يزيد ، عن رجاء بن حيوة ، عن كاتب المغيرة ، عن المغيرة بن شعبة رضي الله عنه، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم " مسح اعلى الخف واسفله" .
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and wiped over the top and bottom of the leather socks.

Hadith Number: 85
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى ، قال: ثنا سليمان بن داود الهاشمي ، قال: ثنا ابن ابي الزناد ، عن ابيه ، عن عروة ، عن المغيرة بن شعبة رضي الله عنه، قال: رايت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم " مسح على ظهر الخفين" .
Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiping over the upper (outer) part of the leather socks.

Hadith Number: 86
حدثنا علي بن خشرم ، قال: ثنا عيسى ، عن شعبة ، عن الحكم ، وحماد ، عن إبراهيم ، عن ابي عبد الله الجدلي ، عن خزيمة بن ثابت رضي الله عنه، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، انه قال: " للمسافر ثلاثة ايام ولياليهن وللمقيم يوم وليلة في المسح على الخفين" .
Sayyiduna Khuzaymah bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The duration for wiping over the socks for a traveler is three days and nights, and for a resident is one day and night.

Hadith Number: 87
حدثنا يعقوب بن إبراهيم الدورقي ، قال: ثنا يحيى بن معين ، قال: حدثنا عبد الوهاب الثقفي ، عن مهاجر بن مخلد ، عن عبد الرحمن بن ابي بكرة ، عن ابيه رضي الله عنه، ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم " جعل للمقيم يوما وليلة وللمسافر ثلاثة ايام ولياليهن في المسح على الخفين" .
Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed the duration for wiping over the leather socks for a traveler as three days and nights, and for a resident as one day and night.
