Narrated to us by Ali ibn Hujr al-Sa'di, narrated to us by Ali ibn Mushir, informed us by al-Mukhtar ibn Fulful, from Anas ibn Malik. And narrated to us by Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah (and the wording is his), narrated to us by Ali ibn Mushir, from al-Mukhtar, from Anas, who said: "While the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was one day among us, he dozed off for a short while, then he raised his head smiling. So we said: What made you laugh, O Messenger of Allah? He said: A surah has just been revealed to me. Then he recited: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful: Indeed, We have granted you al-Kawthar { 1 } So pray to your Lord and sacrifice { 2 } Indeed, your enemy is the one cut off { 3 } Surah al-Kawthar, verses 1-3." Then he said: Do you know what al-Kawthar is? We said: Allah and His Messenger know best. He said: It is a river which my Lord, Mighty and Majestic, has promised me. Upon it is much good. It is a basin to which my ummah will come on the Day of Resurrection. Its vessels are as numerous as the stars. Then a servant from among them will be driven away, and I will say: My Lord, he is from my ummah! He will say: You do not know what they innovated after you. Ibn Hujr added in his narration: among us in the mosque, and he said: What they innovated after you?

Mukhtar bin Fulful reported that he had heard Anas bin Malik (RA) say that the Messenger of Allah ( صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ) dozed off, and the rest of the hadith is the same as transmitted by Mushir except for the words that he (the Holy Prophet) said: It (Kauthar) is a canal which my Lord the Exalted and the Glorious has promised me in Paradise. There is a tank over it, but he made no mention of the tumblers like the number of the stars.
