The narrator named Ziyad reports: A man came to Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him about performing ablution, saying: "Should I begin with the right hand or with the left hand?" So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) rebuked him, then he called for water and (while performing ablution) washed his left hand before his right hand.

Narrated by a narrator named Ziyad: A man asked Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), "Can I wash my left hand before my right hand during ablution?" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) scolded him, then he called for water and washed his left hand before his right hand.

The narrator named Ziyad reports: It was asked from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) always washes the right limb first in ablution?" So Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) called for water and began ablution starting from the left side.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "When I complete my ablution, I do not care from which limb (right or left) I began."

This narration is also transmitted with another chain of transmission.

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I do not mind if, when I begin to perform ablution, I start with my left hand before my right hand."

Sayyiduna Abdullah (ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: "There is no harm in it; you may wash your feet before your arms (in ablution)." This narration is "mursal" and it is not established.

It is narrated about Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): He was asked about a person who washes the left limbs first while performing ablution, so Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "There is no harm in it." This narration is authentic.
