كِتَابُ الْعِلْمِ
Book of Knowledge
فَضْلٌ فِيمَا جَاءَ فِي تَعَلُّمِ لُغَةٍ غَيْرِ لُغَةِ الْعَرَبِ
Its virtue regarding learning a language other than Arabic
Hadith Number: 263
عن زيد بن ثابت رضي الله عنه قال: قال لي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((تحسن السريانية؟ إنها تاتيني كتب)) قال: قلت: لا، قال: ((فتعلمها)) فتعلمتها في سبعة عشر يوما
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Do you have mastery of the Syriac language? Letters of this kind come to me." I said: "No," so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then learn it." I learned this language in seventeen days.
