Chapter on the Obligation of Reciting Al-Fatiha
Hadith Number: 1569
عن عبادة بن الصامت رضي الله عنه رواية تبلغ بها النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((لا صلاة لمن لم يقرا بفاتحة الكتاب))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does not recite Surah Al-Fatihah, his prayer is not valid.

Hadith Number: 1570
(وعنه من طريق ثان) قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: لا صلاة لمن لم يقرا بام القرآن فصاعدا
(Second chain of narration) They say that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no prayer for the one who does not recite Umm al-Qur'an, and more than that as well.

Hadith Number: 1571
عن عائشة زوج النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قالت: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يقول: ((من صلى صلاة لا يقرا فيها بام القرآن فهي خداج))
The wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever offers such a prayer in which he does not recite Umm al-Qur'an, then that prayer will be incomplete.

Hadith Number: 1572
عن عبادة بن الصامت رضي الله عنه قال: صلى بنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم صلاة الغداة فثقلت عليه القراءة، فلما انصرف قال: ((إني لاراكم تقرؤن وراء إمامكم؟)) قلنا: نعم والله يا رسول الله! إنا لنفعل هٰذا، قال: ((فلا تفعلوا إلا بام القرآن فإنه لا صلاة لمن لم يقرا بها))
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer, and recitation became difficult for him. So, after finishing, he asked: I think you recite behind your Imam? We said: Yes! By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! Without any doubt, we do so. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not do so (i.e., do not recite behind me) except for Surah Al-Fatihah, because whoever does not recite it, his prayer is not valid.

Hadith Number: 1573
عن عمرو بن شعيب عن ابيه عن جده قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: ((كل صلاة لا يقرا فيها فهي خداج ثم هي خداج ثم هي خداج))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Every prayer in which recitation is not done is incomplete, then it is incomplete, then it is incomplete.

Hadith Number: 1574
عن ابي هريرة رضي الله عنه ان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم امره ان يخرج فينادي ان ((لا صلاة إلا بقراءة فاتحة الكتاب فما زاد))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, commanded him to go out and announce that there is no prayer except with Surah Al-Fatihah, and with more than that as well.

عن انس بن مالك رضي الله عنه ان النبي صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم وابا بكر وعمر وعثمان كانوا يفتتحون القراءة بـ {الحمد لله رب العالمين}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, Sayyiduna Umar, and Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with them, used to begin the recitation from {اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰہِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِیْنَ}.

Hadith Number: 1576
عن عبد الله بن سوادة القشيري قال: حدثني رجل من اهل البادية عن ابيه وكان ابوه اسيرا عند رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم قال: سمعت محمدا صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم يقول: ((لا تقبل صلاة لا يقرا فيها بام الكتاب))
Abdullah bin Sawadah Qushayri says: A Bedouin man narrated to me from his father, who was a captive with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that he heard Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: That prayer is not accepted in which the recitation of Umm al-Kitab (that is, Surah al-Fatihah) is not done.
