Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When the daughter of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her), was placed in the grave, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse {مِنْہَا خَلَقْنَاکُمْ … … تَارَۃً أُخْرٰی} (Surah Ta-Ha, 55) (We created you from it (the earth), and into it We shall return you, and from it We shall bring you forth once more). Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I do not know whether after this the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this supplication or not: BISMILLAH, WA FI SABILILLAH, WA ‘ALA MILLATI RASULILLAH. (With the name of Allah, in the way of Allah, and according to the way of the Messenger of Allah, we bury). When the grave was sealed with bricks, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) threw some clay towards the people and said: Fill the gaps between the bricks with this. Then he said: This is not something necessary, but it just gives some comfort to the living.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting by the grave, and I saw that tears were flowing from his eyes. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Is there anyone among you who has not had intercourse (with his wife) this night? Suraij said: Its meaning is sin. Sayyiduna Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I am (that person). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then you go down (into the grave).
