Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Madinah, I was ten years old, and when he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, I was twenty years old. My mother and my maternal aunts used to encourage me to serve him. One day, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to our house. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) entered, we milked our domesticated goat for him and the household mixed water from the well into it. A Bedouin was on his right side, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was on his left side, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was in a corner. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank that milk. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Give the remaining milk to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), but he (peace and blessings be upon him) handed it to the Bedouin and said: Those on the right are given precedence.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I was on the right side of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Khalid bin Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) was on the left side. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank water and said to me: "It is your turn to drink the water, but if you wish, I can give it to Khalid first?" I said: "I cannot give preference to anyone over the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So he handed the vessel to me.

Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Sahl Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that water was brought to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he drank it, and on his left side were elders and on his right side was a child. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the child:“Will you permit me to give this water to these elders?”But the child said:“By Allah! I will not give preference to anyone over my share.”So the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) handed the vessel of water to that child.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that we were on a journey, and there was no water available. Then suddenly we found water. The people began to give water to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Whenever they brought water to him, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "The one who serves water to the people drinks last." He repeated this statement three times, until all the people had drunk water, and then at the end, he (peace and blessings be upon him) drank.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Busr (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us, and my grandmother presented a few dates to him and prepared food. We served him water until the water was finished. I brought another bowl; I was assigned the duty of serving water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take the bowl to the one who is at the end (then drink yourself).
