It is narrated from Hanzala bin Khuwailid Anbari, he says: I was present with Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) when two men came to him; both were disputing over the head of Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him), each of them claiming that he had killed him. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) said: It is better that one of you willingly concedes this matter to his companion (for this is not something to be proud of). I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: A rebellious group will kill Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: If this is the case, then why are you with us? He replied: My father went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and complained about me, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered me that as long as your father is alive, obey him and do not disobey him. That is why I am with you, but I do not participate in the fighting.

Kulthum bin Jabr says: We were present at the house of Abdul A’la bin Abdullah bin Aamir in a place called Wasit al-Qasab. There was a man named Abu al-Ghadiyah in the gathering. He asked for water to drink, and he was given water in a vessel whose rim was broken. He refused to drink water from that vessel, and during the conversation, the mention of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) and his saying also came up, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:“Do not become disbelievers after me, striking the necks of one another.”That same man, during the conversation, began to curse and speak ill of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). I said: By Allah, if Allah gives me an opportunity over you in any army, then we shall see. On the day of the Battle of Siffin, he was wearing armor, and aiming for an opening in the rings of his armor, I struck him with a spear and killed him. He was Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him). Kulthum says: What kind of hand is this of a young man, that one day, in view of the hadith of the Prophet, he refused to drink water from a vessel with a broken rim, and on another occasion, he killed Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him).
