It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever comes to our mosque to learn or teach goodness is like one who strives in the way of Allah, and whoever comes for any purpose other than this is like one who is looking at something that does not belong to him. The words of another narration are: And whoever comes for any other purpose is like a person who is looking at someone else's belongings.

It is narrated from Ibrahim bin Abdullah that a woman fell ill and said: If Allah grants me healing, I will go to Bayt al-Maqdis and perform prayer there. She recovered and made preparations to go, and went to Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), greeted her, and informed her of her intention. Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Sit down and eat what I have prepared, and perform your prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque itself. I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that one prayer performed in this mosque is better than a thousand prayers in other mosques, except for the mosque of the Ka‘bah.
