Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – Other acts of obedience can substitute for voluntary jihad.
Hadith Number: 318
اخبرنا عمر بن إسماعيل بن ابي غيلان ، اخبرنا علي بن الجعد ، اخبرنا شعبة ، اخبرني حبيب بن ابي ثابت ، قال: سمعت ابا العباس وهو السائب بن فروخ الشاعر المكي ، يقول: سمعت عبد الله بن عمرو ، يقول: جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، يستاذنه في الجهاد، فقال:" احي والداك"؟ قال: نعم، قال:" ففيهما فجاهد" .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to seek permission to participate in jihad. The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked: Are your parents alive? He replied: Yes. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Then serve both of them well.
