باب ما جاء في الطاعات وثوابها - ذكر الإخبار عما يجب على المرء من ترك الاتكال على ما يأتي من الطاعات دون الابتهال إلى الخالق جل وعلا في إصلاح أواخر أعماله
Chapter on Acts of Obedience and Their Rewards – One must not rely on past good deeds but pray for a good end.
Hadith Number: 339
اخبرنا الحسين بن عبد الله بن يزيد القطان ، قال: اخبرنا هشام بن عمار ، قال: حدثنا الوليد بن مسلم ، قال: حدثنا ابن جابر ، قال: سمعت ابا عبد رب ، يقول: سمعت معاوية ، يقول: سمعت رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، يقول:" إنما الاعمال بخواتيمها، كالوعاء إذا طاب اعلاه طاب اسفله، وإذا خبث اعلاه خبث اسفله" .
Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "The worth of deeds depends on their ending, just like a vessel—if its upper part is clean, then the lower part will also be clean; if the upper part is dirty, then the lower part will also be dirty."
