Section on Responding to Sneezing – Requirement to refrain from responding to a sneezer who does not praise Allah
Hadith Number: 601
اخبرنا الفضل بن الحباب ، قال: حدثنا مسدد بن مسرهد ، قال: حدثنا ابن ابي عدي ، قال: حدثنا سليمان التيمي ، عن انس بن مالك ، قال: عطس رجلان عند النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فشمت احدهما او قال: فسمت احدهما ولم يشمت الآخر، فقيل له: رجلان عطسا، فشمت احدهما وتركت الآخر؟ قال:" إن هذا حمد الله، وإن هذا لم يحمده" .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Two men sneezed in the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He responded to one of them (the narrator is unsure about a word here) and did not respond to the other. It was said to him: Two men sneezed. You responded to one of them and did not respond to the other? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He praised Allah, and the other did not praise Him.
