Chapter on Fear and Piety – Necessity of not relying on existing good deeds without striving for more
Hadith Number: 660
اخبرنا عبد الله بن محمد الازدي ، قال: حدثنا إسحاق بن إبراهيم الحنظلي ، قال: حدثنا عبد الرزاق ، قال: اخبرنا معمر ، عن همام بن منبه ، عن ابي هريرة ، قال: وقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم: " ليس احد منكم ينجيه عمله، ولكن سددوا وقاربوا" قالوا: ولا انت يا رسول الله؟ قال:" ولا انا، إلا ان يتغمدني بمغفرة وفضل" .
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you will be saved by his deeds, however, you should adopt moderation and avoid extremism." The people asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Not even you?" The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Not even me, except that Allah has enveloped me with forgiveness and grace."
