Chapter on Recitation of the Quran – On the reason why the Prophet asked his Lord for pardon and forgiveness
Hadith Number: 739
اخبرنا الحسن بن سفيان ، حدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة ، حدثنا حسين بن علي ، عن زائدة ، عن عاصم ، عن زر ، عن ابي بن كعب ، قال: لقي رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم جبريل صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم:" إني بعثت إلى امة امية، منهم الغلام، والجارية، والعجوز، والشيخ الفاني"، قال: مرهم فليقرؤوا القرآن على سبعة احرف .
Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) met Sayyiduna Jibreel (peace be upon him), so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "I have been sent to an unlettered nation among whom are boys and girls, old women and old men." So Jibreel said: "Guide them that they may recite according to any one of the seven modes."
