كِتَاب الْبِرِّ وَالصِّلَةِ وَالْآدَابِ
The Book of Virtue, Enjoining Good Manners, and Joining of the Ties of Kinship
باب اسْتِحْبَابِ مُجَالَسَةِ الصَّالِحِينَ وَمُجَانَبَةِ قُرَنَاءِ السَّوْءِ:
Chapter: It Is Recommend To Keep Company With Righteous People And Avoid Bad Company

حدثنا ابو بكر بن ابي شيبة ، حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة ، عن بريد بن عبد الله ، عن جده ، عن ابي موسى ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم. ح وحدثنا محمد بن العلاء الهمداني ، واللفظ له، حدثنا ابو اسامة ، عن بريد ، عن ابي بردة ، عن ابي موسى ، عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، قال: " إنما مثل الجليس الصالح والجليس السوء، كحامل المسك ونافخ الكير، فحامل المسك إما ان يحذيك، وإما ان تبتاع منه، وإما ان تجد منه ريحا طيبة، ونافخ الكير، إما ان يحرق ثيابك، وإما ان تجد ريحا خبيثة ".
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from Burayd ibn 'Abd Allah, from his grandfather, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him.
And Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' al-Hamdani narrated to us (and the wording is his), Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Burayd, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
"The example of the righteous companion and the bad companion is like the carrier of musk and the blower of the bellows. The carrier of musk will either give you some, or you will buy from him, or you will find from him a pleasant fragrance. And the blower of the bellows will either burn your clothes, or you will find from him a foul odor."
And Muhammad ibn al-'Ala' al-Hamdani narrated to us (and the wording is his), Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Burayd, from Abu Burdah, from Abu Musa, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
