Chapter on the Manner of Prayer – Report refuting those who claim these narrations apply only to individual prayer
Hadith Number: 1792
اخبرنا ابو يعلى ، حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله بن نمير ، حدثنا ابي ، ويزيد بن هارون ، عن ابن إسحاق ، عن مكحول ، عن محمود بن الربيع ، عن عبادة بن الصامت ، قال: صلى بنا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم الفجر، فثقلت عليه القراءة، فلما سلم قال:" تقرءون خلفي؟" قلنا: نعم، قال:" فلا تفعلوا إلا بام الكتاب، فإنه لا صلاة لمن لم يقرا بها" .
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer, and it became difficult for him to recite (the Qur'an). When he finished the prayer with salam, he said: "You people recite behind me." We said: "Yes." He said: "Do not do so. Only recite Surah Al-Fatihah, because the prayer of the one who does not recite Surah Al-Fatihah is not valid."
